Using 3 Keywords and a Digital Map to Rank Your Newsletter

A simple guide to the "3-keyword rule" for getting your local news found on Google.

How do 3 specific keywords and a "digital map" file help rank your news?

By using a special file called an "articles.xml"—which acts like a digital map that software uses to read your site—you can point Google directly to the three most important words you want to be found for.

The Team just finished a big update that creates this "map" for your Letterman articles automatically.

Instead of making Google guess what your news is about, this file tells the search engine exactly which three topics you want to be famous for in your town.

We limit it to just three keywords because using too many "dilutes the juice," which just means Google gets confused if you try to talk about too many things at once.

The result is that your articles get noticed much faster, giving you the ability to show up on the first page when neighbors search for info in your city.

Why is it a "must" to include your city name in every article title?

Putting your city name in the headline is like putting a giant "You Are Here" sign on your story so Google knows exactly which local neighbors should see it.

Chad reminded us this week that even after the AI writes your article, you should manually make sure your town's name is in the title and the first paragraph.

Instead of just writing about a "new ramen shop," you should write about "New Ramen Shop Opening in [Your City]."

This results in you looking like the number one local authority in your area without having to be a computer whiz.

Which allows you to build a valuable business that big media companies might want to buy from you down the road.
