Here’s the pattern: you feature an article from Publication B inside Publication A.
When someone clicks that article link inside the email, you can choose to auto-subscribe the reader to B.
It’s controlled by a simple checkbox on the publication, and it’s optional by design. “Allowing people to automatically be subscribed… Some of you might not want to do that.” The best part: the click itself already signals interest (dogs, food, events).
